Another example of Chris Pratt appearing as a well-known animated character seemingly out there. Alcon Entertainment and Sony Pictures announced today that the star of Jurassic World, Guardians of the Galaxy and the voice of characters from Onward and The Lego Movie, Chris Pratt, will voice Garfield, the lasagna-loving, Monday-hating cat in a new animated film that is based on the comic character. The immediate reaction is just Really?

A few weeks ago, Pratt was announced as the voice of Mario, the video game icon. Pratt, who seems to share as many similarities with the hero Italian plumber as his Jurassic dino co-stars, is now v oicing Garfield. This character is known for being sarcastic and morose (see: Bill Murray), Pratt is a master of the saracsm, but he's as downtrodden and nimble as a bolt from lightning.
The casting doesn't make sense from a character standpoint. However, if a star needs to be able to attract funding and/or seats, then it makes sense. His acting skills are well-known, he has many big hits and is a talented actor. He has tried to overcome negative publicity about his beliefs. He's still getting work. He just appeared in The Tomorrow War on Amazon, and the Jurassic World Dominion.
Garfield? Mario? To join Emmet from The Lego Movie, and Barley From Onward? Is it possible for someone else to have a chance? Pratt might not be as well-known as other voice actors, but there are countless talented voices out there. If Garfield is the face, then that character is much more popular than any actor you could ever get to portray him.
The film has a new Garfield look that is closer to the comic strips. (The image at the top shows the official look). The script was written by David Reynolds (Finding Nemo), who is currently working with Mark Dindal, (Chicken Little and Emperors New Groove). This Garfield take is likely to be popular. It is still strange that Pratt keeps getting these roles.
