The base model Pixel 6 is more than enough for most people. Google used to launch a regular Pixel phone as well as an "XL" version. These were two versions of the same phone. With the Pixel 6 Pro and Pixel 6 Pro, this year's divide is more about price and what you want from a phone. The all-singing, all dancing Google flagship is the Pixel 6 Pro, and it's priced accordingly. The regular Pixel 6 has almost all of its core features, but the starting price of $599 is a tempting offer for one of the most popular Android phones. The cheaper Pixel is likely to be the best buy for most people this year. If you don't want to spend nearly $900 on the Pro, the regular Pixel 6 may be the right phone for you. 1. There is no real difference in performance. All Pixel 6 smartphones are powered by the same high end Tensor processor that Google developed in partnership with Samsung. A Pixel 6 will give you the same performance as the Pro for day-to-day tasks. The smaller, less expensive phone is just as capable as the Pro, whether you are gaming, scrolling through Twitter or using AI features such as live translation. Same Tensor chip and same high-quality performance. The Pixel 6 Pro has a 120Hz refresh rate which is faster than the regular Pixel 6, but we haven’t seen any improvement in performance or speed. The regular Pixel 6 feels faster than the Pixel 6 Pro, even when used side-by. This is not surprising considering the declining returns that you will often see when the speed jump from 90 to 120Hz occurs.

2. It has the same excellent camera setup. The only downside is the absence of a dedicated Telephoto camera like the Pixel 6 Pro. There's also a slightly weaker front camera that doesn't offer wide-angle selfies, but this is not a major loss. You can probably get by with just one of these. The Pixel 6's 50-megapixel main sensor is capable of zooming in at 2-3X, thanks to its incredible resolution. For portrait shots, the primary sensor will be used. It can also punch in approximately 2X for background blurred close-ups. You'll find a nearly identical camera setup. The Pixel 6 has the same 50-megapixel main camera and 12-megapixel ultrawide cameras that the Pro. You can take amazing photos with both phones, and benefit from the same AI-powered photography features such as motion blur or face unblur. 3. A smaller and more slippery form factor. The Pixel 6 is not exactly small. However, it is smaller than its predecessor, the 6 Pro. For some, the difference in size between a Pixel 6 and a Pixel 6 Pro will make a difference between phones that are comfortable and ones that require one-handed operation. Both the smaller and larger Pixel 6 are easier to use with one hand. I have tested them both.

This is partly due to the flat display used in this model. The Pixel 6 Pro, like all smartphones with curved OLED displays, has less space for you to hold onto on the sides. This adds to the reachability issues. The smaller Pixel is the best option if you don't like large phones. 4. It's half the price of another Pixel 6. It's a significant difference of $300 between the base model Pixel 6 Pro and Pixel 6 Pro. It's also half the price of a vanilla Pixel 6. The Pixel 6 Pro is a great deal and actually offers better value than many big-name Android flagships. The hardware similarities between the Pro and the Pixel 6 are so close that I can't blame anyone if they decide the $300 price tag is too high. Especially when the core experience of the flagship Google phone can be found on the regular Pixel 6. The regular Pixel 6 will give you more bang for your buck, regardless of whether you pay upfront or finance the phone via a carrier plan.

5. More color! The smaller Pixel is the best option for you if you love color on your smartphone. The Pro offers two more bold colors, while the regular Pixel 6 has them both. Black is always an option, regardless of which Pixel you choose. But, chances are that you will want one the more vibrant Pixel 6 variants, in "sorta oceanfoam" and "kinda coral". The vanilla Pixel 6 offers a richer palette of colors to match your lifestyle and phone.
