Los Angeles Rams finished as 16.5-point favorites against the Houston Texans.
The Rams led 38-0 heading into the fourth quarter. This seemed to seal a win for Los Angeles gamblers.
The Texans managed to score 22 points in the fourth quarter, which is a remarkable backdoor cover.
On Sunday, bettors who had backed the Los Angeles Rams were disappointed when the Houston Texans came back in the fourth quarter to win by 16.
The Rams were 16.5-point favorites heading into the game. This meant that bettors had to expect Los Angeles to win by at minimum 17 points in order to cash their tickets. Los Angeles minus the point was one of today's most popular bets.
It looked like those bets had been a winner through three quarters with the Rams taking a 38-0 advantage over the lowly Texans.

The fourth quarter was then completed.
The Rams had the game under their belt and pulled quarterback Matthew Stafford to replace John Wolford, who was second-year backup. Los Angeles was unable to move the ball. The bettors still had 22 points of cushion to use - if Los Angeles could win the fourth quarter, they would be safe.
It wasn't meant for that.
With eight minutes remaining in the game, the Texans scored their first touchdown. The Texans won another touchdown after a three-and-out by the Rams. Just four plays later, Davis Mills connected to wide receiver Brandin Cooks.
With five minutes remaining, the Rams led was suddenly reduced to 38-14. The Rams had the game in their hands, but bettors who wanted them to win by 17 were already sweating.

The Texans would soon recover the onside kick, and that sweat would quickly turn into a downpour.
Six plays later, the Texans scored again to reduce the Rams' lead to 38-20.
The next step was the death blow for Rams bettors. The Texans went for two, despite being down 18 points. Houston would be down only two points if it converted. Although a comeback to win this game is unlikely, it was the right decision for a team still fighting.
Mills successfully attempted a two-point shot and took the ball. He crossed the goal line.
Rams 38, Texans 22. Rams bettors: Slamming their heads against the wall.
Houston's second attempt at an onside kick would fail. 38-22 would be the final score.
It's not all Rams bettor got crushed, for what it's worthwhile. Los Angeles was a 14-point to 16 point favorite for those who placed their bets earlier in the week. However, those who waited until Sunday to place a bet on the game were likely to get the final number of 16.5, and they ripped their tickets when it was over.
Sean McVay, the Rams' head coach, joked about the spread after the game.
McVay stated that "Vegas" is a good number, according to ESPN's Lindsey Thiry.
Yes, they are Sean. Yes, they are.
