Even San Francisco media is tired of Checkdown Jimmy G leading the 49ers

There are many reasons why Jimmy Garoppolos' days as the 49ers' quarterback are being discussed. Some local media outlets in the Bay Area have begun to discredit Jimmy G.

Even though the Bears won today, many local media outlets in San Francisco Bay have had enough of Garoppolo's behavior and are ready for a new chapter. John Middlekauff, a prominent voice in Bay Area sport for many years, has publicly expressed his disapproval with Garoppolo. I can't disagree. Jimmy G has a ceiling and he smashed his head against it in the Super Bowl against Chiefs a few years back.

Many will point out that Tom Brady used the same style of dink-and-dunk to defend Garoppolo from naysayers in New England. Brady did this because he had to for New England most of his life. We all know Brady is a skilled player who can pass the ball quickly and accurately. Jimmy's short-passing game is what he does because it's all he can do, and his coaches are well aware of this. Garoppolo may not be a great quarterback, but he will never be an elite one. He doesn't possess elite arm talent.

Let's just call it what is. Yes Garoppolo won with the Niners and with the Patriots. If Jimmy is to win many more games, everything around him must be in perfect condition. If that isn't the case, your team will be below.500 like they have been this year.

Although Jimmy might be the best option at the moment, I believe Trey Lance will still take over the starting position before the end. Lance has been injured this year so health will be a factor. Lance is able to push the ball downfield in ways Garoppolo cannot even imagine.

The short-pass strategy only works for so much time now. We can see how little Jimmy G lived in San Francisco. Because of the way the NFL operates these days, the teams don't move up to draft QBs high enough to allow them to sit for long periods. It is possible, but it's unlikely. That's fine with me, but Garoppolo is unlikely to make it through the season in his current job.
