Resident Evil Welcome to Raccoon City Reboot, Jill Valentine

The trailer for Resident Evil 2 was released earlier this month. It looked like a cheap, expensive horror movie with an...interesting soundtrack. It's not likely that this was a marketing mistake for the six-movie series. The film's Jill Sandwich jokecalling back the original Resident Evil game after she's nearly crushed by a ceiling trap is corny.

Sony released a character trailer yesterday that featured Welcome to Raccoon City's cinematic version, played by Hannah John–Kamen. Jill grabs a sandwich from Albert Wesker (Tom Hopper), and says, It's Jills sandwich. Resident Evil is no stranger to cheese. Jill has been the exception.

The vignette is a bit similar to those that focus on Claire Redfield (Kaya Scodelario), and Chris (Robbie Amell). It's weirdly edited, and more than a little funny. Hopper makes a point of pointing out Jills is a bit off. The vignette shows her pulling a gun against someone face down and asking the question, "What's the worst way to kill yourself?" (The movie may be just the answer to this question.

Jill will become a major player in Resident Evil's universe if the film follows the storyline of the games. Raccoon City is a mix of the first two Resident Evil games. Jill was not featured in Resident Evil 2 as Capcoms Shinji Mikami thought she and Chris, a fellow RE1-protagonist, would be too familiar with zombies to be afraid of them soon after they escaped from the Spencer mansion. Combining these two games could change their characters in interesting ways moving forward.

Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City will be released in theaters November 24,
