It is expected that the Bride of Frankenstein will travel the world saving monsters such as Dracula and the Mummy from certain death. They'll...who knows? Maybe Jekyll will become the ultimate bad guy. The first episode of The Mandalorian's pilot has dropped in Fortnite. Here is a trailer that gives a glimpse of what to expect. The rest of the episodes will be available in 2022.

Although it sounds absurd, there might be some humor in seeing these YA characters using their supernatural abilities and uttering a few quips. It doesn't matter what it turns out to be, the tech behind the project is impressive. The Epics Metahuman creator tool was used for bringing the characters to life. The entire project was created in collaboration with Plastic Wax and the Unreal engine. The video below shows Wax founder Nathan Maddams talking with Universal character designer about the creation of the series. He describes it as a mixture of Shaw brothers films and heist movies, which is great for martial arts fans.

The series look was decided alongside eight-month projects. He also admitted that Metahuman helped speed up the visualization process. Mark McCreery was a Universal character designer and was able to create the final look for his character designs in less than a day. McCreery stated that he is used to digital tools increasing the game's quality, but Unreal engine elevated everything to a level I had never experienced before.

The short films were, as silly as it sounds. They were made to right the wrongs done by Bride of Frankenstein. She only appeared in the original film for three seconds. McCreery saw the short films as a perfect way to explore her, as the films had not been able to. The attempted film about her is still in some sort of limbo. He felt it was appropriate to make her the hero of this adventure and empower her. (Per Addams she is actually six Metahuman heads that have been spliced together, and then imported back to Unreal.

The video serves mainly as a marketing tool for Unreal and Metahumans, and will be of interest to anyone interested in animation or tech. It's hard to know if the shorts will be more than a distraction. But it is a solid showcase of Epics tech that will soon grace consoles and PC gaming over the next few years. That and the eventual Fornite original series on the Creature from the Black Lagoon.
