Sergio Aguero was admitted to the hospital after experiencing "chest discomfort" during Barcelona's match against Alaves, their first match since Ronald Koeman's sacking.

Aguero fell on his stomach, clutching his chest, and was treated for several minutes before being taken off the pitch.

Barcelona later stated that he had an external-link and was admitted to hospital for a "cardiac examination".

After Memphis Depay's first curling attempt, Luis Rioja was awarded Alaves a point.

Sergi Barjuan, interim manager of Barca, said that Aguero, 33-year-old former Manchester City striker, was taken to a hospital in an ambulance. He has been admitted to hospital, and they are performing tests on him.

The Argentine was making the first club start since his summer move.

After 10 years at City, Aguero signed a two-year contract with Barca. He was their most prolific goal scorer with 260 goals in 390 matches.

Barcelona is still in ninth place after the point against Alaves. This puts it eight points behind La Liga leader Real Madrid who beat Elche 2-1 on Saturday.

Sergi Barjuan, interim coach, was closest to opening the first half. Eric Garcia's downward-header was saved by Antonio Sivera, Alaves goalkeeper.

Depay was just inches away from restoring Barcelona’s lead shortly after Alaves' equaliser. However, the Dutchman couldn't steer his effort away from Gavi's post-attack.

Philippe Coutinho, who took over for Aguero in the second half, was a pain in Sivera's hands with a dipping kick as the visitors won their first point at Nou Camp since 2016.
