Matt Nagy still in COVID-19 protocol, won't coach Chicago Bears on Sunday

The Chicago Bears coach Matt Nagy is still in the NFL's COVID-19 protocol. He will not be coaching Sunday's game against San Francisco 49ers, as the team announced.

Head coach of the Bears special-teams team Chris Tabor

"We'll have everything we need, and that's where trust and faith in your coaches and players will be a key factor." Nagy spoke Friday.

After Sunday's 38-3 loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Nagy reported that he had tested positive for COVID-19. Nagy stated that there were no positive tests Monday, and that he felt fine despite the diagnosis.

Tabor managed the team meetings during Nagy's absence.

Tabor stated Thursday that "I'll be truthful with you, the weeks haven't been different for me from a standpoint where I talk to Coach [Nagy] every day." He's always there at all meetings. He's not physically present.

"In terms of how we prepare for special teams, I have remained consistent with my routine and same process. If Coach asks me to do something, I'll do it. To be completely honest, it's not difficult for me to do. I'm trying to be true. "We are not going to win the game today but we sure can lose it tomorrow," is what I always say. We want to practice well to be ready for Sunday.

Nagy requires that all NFL coaches be vaccinated. He must have two negative tests within 24 hours of his return.
