According to the US Department of Justice (DOJ), a Delta Airlines passenger aged 21 has been charged with two federal felonies for allegedly punching an attendant on the flight and trying to enter the cockpit.

Ryan Cajimat was on a flight from Honolulu, Hawaii to Seattle on December 24, 2020. He "became disruptive and violent," according to a DOJ press release.

Cajimat is alleged to have tried to open the cockpit doors and fought flight attendants, two hours before landing. Cajimat was also accused twice of punching one flight attendant in the face.

According to the DOJ, Cajimat was placed in a restraint for the remainder of the flight. He was then removed from the plane upon arrival in Seattle.

After the incident, Delta Airlines barred the passenger from any further travel on the airline. Insider reached out to the airline but they did not respond immediately.

Cajimat was charged for interfering with flight crew members and assaulting a special aircraft operated by the US authorities.

He is due to appear in court on November 18th.

Crew members of airlines have reported numerous violent and disruptive incidents in recent months. A video of a Southwest Airlines passenger punching a flight attendant in her face was released in May. She also knocked 2 of her teeth out.

After threatening to fracture another passenger's neck, a United Airlines passenger wearing a mask was kicked off the plane this month.
