Contrary to the persistent reputation of being a place filled with sin and chaos, the modern adult market is actually quite calm and orderly. Porn producers and crews follow industry standards for safety and professionalism. Any performer who stays for longer than a few weeks puts in serious preparation work for scenes. Even the most wild scenes can go off without a hitch, because they are carefully choreographed.
However, there are always risks. Sometimes, people exploit their employees or colleagues, creating big scandals that moral crusaders and tabloids love to relive. Sometimes things go wrong in the best of circumstances. Because porn involves writhing bodies with all their fluids and squishy bits, things can quickly get crazy and eye-popping. Many performers have heard horror stories about vomit-inducing and diarrheic anal. These stories are often both hilarious and horrifying.

Mashable asked 10 actors to share their most memorable horror stories from the set in honor of Spooky Season. Some stories are quite frightening and some are downright horrifying. Others are hilarious. Many of these tales contain wisdom that can be used to help any industry insider, civilian or civil (sex is inevitably off-script for everyone at some point). Avoid or navigate similar mistakes.

Kate Kennedy: I do standup comedy and porn. I was booked for a comedy show at seven o'clock one evening. Then I was booked for a brief blowjob scene 35 miles away with a call time of noon. I knew I would have plenty of time to complete the scene, clean up, and get to the show. When I arrived at the set, I discovered that multiple porn scenes were being shot that day by the production crew. Mine wouldn't start until 3 p.m. I began to feel irritated. To explain my situation, I informed the crew that I had to be gone by 5 p.m. Another girl had a scene earlier than me and was willing to swap spots. I was able start my scene on time, and it was moving smoothly despite my countdown clock.
When we were almost done, it was too late. I was lying on my back, my head hanging from a couch, while the dude beat my throat. I thought I had enough time to take in the spit that had accumulated and was now gasping for air. As I was holding my tongue in my throat, ready for swallowing, the dude slammed my cock into my mouth, striking my tongue from below. Boom. There is always blood.
The force had torn my frenulum, which connected my tongue to my bottom of the mouth.
We called cut and I tried desperately to stop the bleeding. To stop the blood from escaping, I held my tongue down and kept it pressed against my teeth. My scene partner was now in my face. After I was done, I quickly cleaned up and drove to the comedy show wearing an ice cube underneath my tongue. That night, I did a whole standup set with a noticeable lisp. I mostly recall trying to not spray the audience with my tongue blood. But, I still had laughs and everything turned out to be fine.
That day I realized that I needed to keep my comedy and porn lives separate.
Nathan Bronson: Once, I did a scene with three 16-year-old girls in a blowbang. The scene involved three women being covered in 50-60 bottles each of bananas, whipped cream and strawberries. The idea was to make a huge banana split. They covered the floor in plastic. Because whipped cream is oily and slippery, the floor looked more like an ice-skating surface than anything else. To prevent them from sliding and sliding, we had to keep some of the men upright while the girls worked on them. No one fell over. That is, up to the very end.
All the guys had to put a cum on the faces of the girls at the end. I was the last. You could only see their faces from the camera's viewpoint. You can see their faces looking at the camera from one point. They are very concerned. Because I did a flip while trying to cum. Director cut the scene and checked on me. They were worried that they wouldn't be able finish it. But I stood up and said I could finish the scene, and then I sealed the deal.
Ela Darling: I noticed that I was getting sweaty and hot halfway through a lesbian strap on bondage scene. I was filming with a friend who was a close friend. My muscles started to ache and I felt feverish. All the symptoms of the flu were beginning to manifest in my body.
I should have left the scene. However, I knew that production costs would increase if we had the scene cut and picked up on another day. I decided to tell myself that I was feeling a bit off as I had skipped breakfast. I needed water. I got hydrated and had a snack before trying to continue.
My scene partner and me sat down on our knees facing each other. The next part of the shoot was where we had our torsos connected with intricate rope work. The ropes were also attached so that our hands could be attached to the hook suspended from a ceiling. After the rope work was completed, we were ready for shooting. However, my vision became cloudy and full of black spots and I began to sweat profusely. I was afraid I would pass out. Finally, I told the crew I felt dizzy and sick. They quickly untied my hands so that I could rest and get comfortable before I continued, which I fully intended to do. It wasn't enough.
Before I began vomiting violently and frequently, a production assistant made it to me with a garbage can. My entire body was facing my scene partner and was tied against his.
As this angel of a woman held me back, I leaned as far as I could away from her (which was not far), and then I empty my stomach into a bin that was being held by an incredulous production assistant. The director was forced to stop the shoot at an early stage and pick it up a few days later.
I was shocked. My lessons were: It's better not to push yourself beyond the limits when you feel uncomfortable during sex, or any other activity. If you get tied to someone and feel like you are going to vomit, their response is to grab your hair and make you feel better. This is a friend for the rest of your life.
Brandi Bae: I did a very rough bondage scene, which was a lot more than I am used to. But I wasn't complaining. After the shoot, however, I noticed that one of my breasts was looking strange. It was hanging lower than the others and looked kind of deformed. I went to the doctor and had an x-ray taken. The doctor informed me that one [of my breast implants] had burst and that I needed immediate surgery. I ended up spending $7,000 on breast reconstruction surgery. That was the last time I saw that scene.
Kimber Haven: A scene in which the lead-in required me to descend a spiral staircase. It was glamorous and very sexy. I climbed seven steps to the top and then ate the whole thing, rolling down the stairs. I looked anything but glamorous before the entire crew, with my hair sticking up and feet in the air.
I was taught not to traverse spiral staircases with seven-inch heels.
I advise you to not avoid accidents. They do happen. Don't worry about it. This is part of what makes sex so exciting and attractive. It adds an element of danger to the experience. It's fun because you never know what might happen.
Know your limits. Talk about them, respect them and there should be no problems.
You know that you had a great time if you get bumps and bruises on the way.
Aria Khaide: I was just starting my career when I went to another city to shoot a photo only to discover that I had started spotting. I had no idea how women in the industry navigated this time of the month. I was shocked to find out that I needed to cancel. I cant cancel. I must be professional
Instead of asking my industry friends how they handle this situation (because they might cancel the shoot, and then I'd have to do that myself), instead I asked my vanilla mom friends if their partners have sex when they're bleeding. All of them said, "Oh it's fine. Just get one of the Diva Cups, put it in, then have sex." I had never tried one before but I thought it was okay. I went to the pharmacy and got one. I looked like a young boy in his twenties trying to put on a condom for the first time. But it was in. (Editor's Note: Diva Cup advises against the use of this product during penetration sex.
Porn sex can be a lot more rough than regular partner sex. I was booked for a rough scene. Although the sex was unpleasant due to the cuff, I handled it with ease while my partner was pumping away. I thought that no one would notice that I was bleeding and that we'd still have an amazing scene. After we had finished the scene, I went to the toilet on set to get clean and take a shower. However, I forgot to go into the bathroom before I took out the cup. Things had become quite messy after my scene partner had started pounding away. The bathroom suddenly looked like a horror movie.
I found only white towels in the toilet, so I grabbed tissues and paper towels to clean it up. I thought, Oh my god, this is taking too much time, they will think there's something wrong. I was shocked.
But I made it out okay. Later, I shared my story with a friend from the industry and asked her about what she does when she is bleeding. I asked her what she thought about these cups. All of us just use a makeup sponge. I was also informed by her that men in the industry are generally very chill and don't get too upset by blood like non-industry guys. The next time I started bleeding, I used a sponge to inform my scene partner. He said, "Don't worry, we will put you in that position so the cameras don't see any blood." It was all perfectly fine.
It's a good idea to not ask my industry friends from the beginning.
Lucy Hart - I was cast in a BDSM scene as Batman. Catwoman put me flat on my stomach, tied at my ankles and wrists, and gagged. At the end of the scene, Catwoman was supposed to spray liquid on my face. She stood above me and suddenly, a lot liquid hit me fast. Most of it went up my nose and blocked my breathing. Because my head was so tilted back, I couldn't get rid of it. The girl shouted, "Oh my God! Did I get it on me!" ?, and she ran off. She didn't let out the usual squirt. I was left drenched on the ground by whatever she released. The director immediately chased her.
After a few minutes of wondering if Batman would be my last appearance, I decided that I'd just swallow the fluid to see if it was possible to breath through the gag. It worked.
I was finally untied by someone else. I didn't ask what she was talking about. It wasn't pee. Batman didn't need to know, I think. I took my money and went. It was a beautiful costume.
Consider your need to breath first if someone is going to squirt at your face.
Misha Montana: I suffered a stroke in April and had to have heart surgery two weeks later. Tommy Pistol and I shot a scene after a stroke in May. We were wearing a heart monitor. Tommy accidentally stepped on the monitor at the end of the scene. My cardiologist sent me a report stating that my heart activity that day was unusual.
Tommy Pistol came on my broken heart.
Carmela Clutch: When I was on set for a boy/girl-girl scene, another female talent asked me if I knew the male talent who was also the film's director. Although I didn't know him personally, I said I loved his work. She stated that he was "really weird" and "nasty sh*t." I didn't understand the gravity of her words so I laughed and said, “Whatever, I'm down for anything.” She then ate a bag of kettle corn 15 minutes before the scene began.
It started out perfectly: I was giving him the best sloppy-toppy hair I had ever seen at that time in my career. After that, we switched off, and the other woman began to treat him. She went deeper, throating the whole dick until she finally gave up and threw out all of the kettle corn she had chucked earlier.
The man holding the camera leaned over to me and smiled. I was determined to show my sexual prowess so I hesitated only a millisecond before going for it. Although I was excited, I was completely caught off guard.

This scene turned out fantastic. This is one of my favorite fetish videos. It was one of my most memorable uh-oh! moments in my career. We still laugh about it.
Charlotte Stokely: I was filming Terror Camp's final scene with Aidra Fox. The director had us both inside a tent and told us to shout panic from the outside as he threw a rock out to signal us to get out. The scene was practiced and everything went smoothly. Instead of throwing a rock on the actual shoot, the director instructed his production assistant to sneak behind the tent and shake it Blair Witch-style.
I ran away and let out a loud scream as the PA shaken the tent.
He got me so well, Damn! [Laughs.]
