Jean-Luc Vasseur is appointed Everton boss, with the Toffees 8th in the table
Everton, a women's Super League team, has appointed Jean-Luc Vasseur, former Lyon boss as their new manager.
Willie Kirk was fired in October.
Vasseur won 2019-20 the treble, but was fired in April following Lyon's five-year reign of European champions and 14-year streak of league tiles.
Vasseur, a Frenchman who signed a two-and a half-year contract, said that he had come to Everton to create new history and win titles.
"We have a lot talent and resources, so I believe there is a lot of potential to improve.
"I want to build a team capable of qualifying for the Champions League. We must be patient and work hard to win.
Kirk, an ex-manager, spoke about the same Champions League ambitions before the start to the season. The Toffees had a busy Summer signing a variety of players including Toni Duggan's return to her hometown club.
The Scotsman's tenure was ended after a difficult start to the season that saw them lose four out of six games in all competitions.
Sarvar Ismailov, Everton's sporting director and commercial director, stated that Vasseur, a former player for Paris St-Germain and Saint-Etienne, before becoming a coach in France's men's game, believes the Champions League-winning boss is the best candidate for the job.
Ismailov stated, "We wanted a proven winner"
"We also needed someone with the same DNA as our club - someone who has an attacking vision and fights to the end.
"He is driven to make everyone better and is ambitious."
Vasseur will be taking charge of the Continental Cup fixture at Leicester, 3 November.
