Fans will be delighted to hear that Dune Part 2 will be coming in October 2023. This means that we will be able to see what happens with Paul Atreides. It's great news for Denis Villeneuve, Dune Part 1 director and writer, but he faces a larger problem than the fans: making the movie on time.

The director said that while it was great news, it is also a burden. Good news is that much of the work regarding design, casting and locations, as well as writing, has already been completed. We didn't have to start from scratch. Although it is not a lengthy time period, I will do my best to meet that challenge. It is important for me that Part Two be available as soon as possible. It is not a continuation of the first movie, or another story featuring the same characters. It is actually a continuation of the first movie. It's the second part in the huge, massive movie I am trying to make. The sooner you can do it, the better.
Villeneuve also admitted in the interview that production would not start until 2022. (Even though it would be quick, he said), Villeneuve stated that production would take only one year to complete. Although it is possible, it is not easy with a film this large. Villeneuve stated that he is feeling reenergized by the positive reactions to the film. It is good to know people enjoy the movie and that it has generated enthusiasm. This gives me the energy I need to complete Part 2. That joy gives me energy, even if I'm very self-centered. This is what I'll say. If it were the reverse and no one had turned up at the theater, I don't know where I would find my stamina to take on Part Two.
As we have previously reported, this energy could carry over to Frank Herberts next Dune series book, Dune Messiah. If Part Two goes well, I can see the possibility of Dune Messiah being made. The director agreed that this would make sense. To answer your question, I believe that I will make other movies. Let's call them big movies in terms of their ambition and scope. Later on, when I'm too tired, I'll return to smaller projects. [Laughs.] For now, however, I have the energy and will do it.
It's going to be a necessity. Dune Part 2 will be released in theaters on October 20, 2023, just two years after Dune Part 1.
