San Diego Padres hire Oakland Athletics' Bob Melvin as new manager, source says

A source confirmed that Bob Melvin, Oakland Athletics manager, has signed a three year contract to become San Diego Padres' manager.
Although the A's had accepted his 2022 option, they allowed him to interview for a Padres job.

Melvin, 60, was the A's manager for the past 11 seasons. His record was 853-764. The A's reached the postseason six times under his supervision.

He has also held managerial roles with the Seattle Mariners, Arizona Diamondbacks, and has an overall record 1,346-1.272 over 18 seasons.

Jayce Tingler was fired from his role as Padres manager following the team's collapse in the second half of a 2021 season. San Diego had high expectations for the Padres.

MLB.com first reported Melvin's deal with the Padres.
