Meta, formerly Facebook, has been developing a smartwatch to compete with Apple Watch since the beginning of this year. Bloomberg now has photos of the device.
Although the design of this smart watch is similar to that of Apple Watch, it's wider and more round with more curved edges. The display has a camera at its bottom and a control button on its right side.
Bloomberg reports that the watch will have a removable wrist strap and a button on the top. According to rumors, the watch will feature a removable display that can be detached and two cameras built in for sharing photos and videos to Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.
The front camera will be used to make video calls. A secondary camera can be used on the back to capture photos when the watch body is removed from the stainless steel frame.
It will provide a cellular connection without the need for a smartphone. Wearers will also be able send messages using services such as Messenger and WhatsApp. The device is expected to include health monitoring features such as a heart rate monitor.
Meta, the social networking site Facebook, sells Oculus virtual headsets and the Facebook Portal videos calling devices. But the smart watch will mark its debut wearable. The watch could be launched by Meta as soon as 2022. However, there is no set release date and plans can still change. It will be competing with the Apple Watch Series 8 if it does make its debut in 2022.
