Aer Lingus announced its 2022 transatlantic schedule, with some surprises
Next summer, Aer Lingus transatlantic flights
Aer Lingus' summer 2022 transatlantic schedule has been revealed by the airline. It includes flights from three European gateways.
Dublin (DUB) is the carrier's largest hub. From there, the airline will fly to the following transatlantic destinations.
Boston (BOS)
Chicago (ORD).
Los Angeles (LAX)
New York (JFK).
Newark (EWR).
Orlando (MCO)
Philadelphia (PHL).
San Francisco (SFO)
Seattle (SEA).
Toronto (YYZ)
Washington (IAD).
Aer Lingus is also working to establish a hub in Manchester (MAN) and will operate transatlantic flights to these destinations.
Barbados (BGI)
New York (JFK).
Orlando (MCO)
Aer Lingus will also be returning transatlantic flights from Shannon (SNN) and will provide service to these destinations:
Boston (BOS)
New York (JFK).

What is interesting about Aer Lingus' upcoming schedule?
Aer Lingus' summer 2022 schedule is full of surprises. These can be attributed to several factors.
Aer Lingus joined the oneworld transatlantic joint enterprise, which means that it will coordinate schedules and fares with American, British Airways and Finnair.
Aer Lingus plans to launch transatlantic flights from Manchester instead of Shannon in 2020.
This is what I find surprising, keeping that in mind:
Aer Lingus is reducing its growth in Dublin. In the summer 2022, the airline will not fly to Miami (MIA), nor to Hartford (BDL), or Minneapolis (MSP) and will not launch flights to Montreal. (YUL) was a destination that was announced before the pandemic.
Aer Lingus is reducing Manchester growth before transatlantic flight to the United States can even be launched. The airline was supposed to fly between Manchester and Boston in the summer 2022. However, that's not happening any more. Perhaps the JetBlue alliance will allow the US to operate this route instead.
Aer Lingus chose to keep its Shannon transatlantic flights. This was because it sees enough demand and is not competing for them.

Bottom line
Aer Lingus announced its transatlantic summer schedule for 2022. This will see transatlantic flights from Shannon, Manchester, and Dublin. The original plan was to cut Shannon in favor of Manchester. However, it appears that the airline will keep all three transatlantic gateways open.
Aer Lingus had to reduce its schedule from Dublin and Manchester as a result. Some routes were cut as well as planned routes that did not materialize.
What do you think of Aer Lingus' upcoming transatlantic schedules?
