Apple introduced App Privacy Report in iOS 15.2 beta. This feature was first demonstrated at WWDC. App Privacy Report provides information to users about how often apps access sensitive info they have granted permissions to, such as location and contacts.
Apple also displays network activity to show you which domains are being contacted in the background.
How to turn on the App Privacy Report
These instructions will enable App Privacy Report in the Settings app.
Start the Settings app. Scroll down and click Privacy. Scroll down to the Privacy section in the Settings app and tap on App Privacy report. Tap on Turn On App Privacy Report.
App Privacy Report will automatically turn on if you have "Record App Activity" enabled in iOS 15/iOS 15.1 update. It will already be populated by data. You may need to wait a while before you see data from apps or websites.
Using App Privacy Report
Apple displays data for the last seven days. The app can be broken up into sections to make it easier to find what you need.
Access to Data & Sensors
This section contains a list that Apple has provided of the apps that have accessed sensors or data they were granted privacy permissions to. It is your most sensitive information.
Contacts
Localization
Photos
Camera
Microphone
Media Library
You can see which apps have accessed these data and sensors access.
App Privacy Report will show you every time an app has accessed that data.
App Network Activity
App Network Activity allows you to view a list listing all domains your apps have contacted in the past seven days.
This includes all internal domains used in apps. However, it also allows you to see which third-party websites or services are accessed such as tracking and analytics tools.
To see a list of domains that have been reached out to, you can tap on any app. For example, if you have Instagram installed you will see URLs for Google Analytics, DoubleClock, Google Tag Manager and many other services, as well as internal Instagram URLs and Facebook URLs.
You can find a list of web sites you have visited within each app at the bottom of the data.
Website Network Activity
Website Network Activity is almost identical to App Network Activity but shows all domains visited by websites you have visited in Safari or other apps.
This will display all the trackers and analytics websites that are being used by your website.
Most Contacted Domains is an amalgamated list of domains that apps most frequently contact. It is often populated with various trackers or analytics domains.
How to turn off App Privacy Report
This section allows you to tap on any domain in the list and see the apps or websites that used it.
These steps can be followed if you don't wish to use App Privacy report.
Start the Settings app. Scroll down and click Privacy. Scroll down to the Privacy section in the Settings app and tap on App Privacy report. Tap on Turn off App Privacy Report.
All collected data will be deleted if you turn off App Privacy Report. Apple will begin to aggregate data from apps once it is turned back on.
