Borussia Monchengladbach was defeated by Hertha Berlin in Bundesliga at the weekend
Bayern Munich was beaten by Borussia Monchengladbach, their worst defeat since 1978.
Gladbach led 1-0 at the end of two minutes, and 3-0 at the beginning of the 21st minute.
Kouadio Kone scored his first goal for the club, before Ramy Bensebaini won Jonas Hofmann a cross and then scored a penalty.
Breel Embolo capitalized on Luca Netz’s defensive error to score the fourth and second goals.
"I am absolutely shocked. "We simply didn't show up," Hasan Salihamidzic, a former Bayern player and sports director, told ARD.
"We weren't there. In the first half, we did not win any tackles or challenges.
"Everything that could go wrong went right. We allowed ourselves to be outplayed in all situations - a collective blackout."
Gladbach scored five of their six goals on target, with Bayern having more possession than the hosts and making more effort to score.
Bayern suffered only their second defeat under Julian Nagelsmann, who also named a first-choice side. This ended an 85-game streak of consecutive wins.
Nagelsmann tested positive for Covid-19 and was at home, self-isolating.
Bayern lost their last game by five goals 43 years ago, when Fortuna Dusseldorf defeated them 7-1 in Bundesliga.
Their record loss was a 7-0 home defeat to Schalke in the league in 1976. However, this is their worst defeat in a competition that they have won a record twenty times.
Adi Hutter's Gladbach have lost four of eight of their previous eight games and are currently in the bottom half.
