LAKE FOREST (Ill.) -- Chicago Bears coach Matt Nagy stated Wednesday that there is no consensus regarding the status of ailing superstar Khalil Mak for Week 8's home match against San Francisco 49ers.
Nagy stated that the only thing he would add to that was "We're working through all this right now with Khalil," during a Zoom call. He's been fighting through his foot injury, as everyone knows. You've seen this with practice over the last few weeks. There have been no decisions. We'll see what the end result is."
NFL Media reported Wednesday morning that Mack would be absent Sunday's match against the 49ers. Mack could also be placed on short-term injured reserve.
The former NFL Defensive Players of the Year has not been practicing in recent weeks due to foot and rib injuries. However, he has participated in every regular-season match in 2021.
Mack is the Bears' leader with six sacks
Nagy stated that Khalil is currently going through this with our trainers. "We're just trying to make certain everything's at its best, the doctors, mentally, and physically, you go through various stages and so we'll have those conversations." "We are not there yet. Literally, I believe we are at a point now that it is really beneficial for him to get all the answers he needs with his current situation.
"I love that he's been able, despite not practicing the past couple of weeks, to get out on game day and grind it out. He's put together some great games and is determined to continue that way. We need that. However, it is important to know that you can get help when you are in pain. We are in that process right this moment.
