In the final over of a tense Super 12s match at Men's T20 World Cup, Namibia prevailed by four wickets against Scotland.

Namibia, which is competing on this stage with Scotland for the first time in this competition, struggled to chase 110 balls but managed to sneak home in Abu Dhabi with five balls spare.

They were at one point 67-4. Their scoring was halted by two more wickets late on. JJ Smit, however, hit an unbeaten 32 runs from 23 balls to win the match with a six-over point.

Scotland had a terrible start to the game with the bat, before they were able to climb to 109-8 thanks to Michael Leask’s 27-ball 44.

George Munsey was out bowled by the first ball and Scotland were 2-3 when Ruben Trumpelmann grabbed two more wickets.

Scotland was humbled by Afghanistan's opening Super 12 match. They now face India, Pakistan, and New Zealand in their remaining Group 2 fixtures.

Namibia hadn't won a World Cup match prior to this tournament, but they can now add this victory to their historic victories against Ireland and the Netherlands that saw them through the qualifying round.

Namibia breaks new ground

Namibia was slightly underdogs in this game, ranking 16th in the world, and Scotland 12th. However, they ended the match taking photographs after another historic victory.

There was a chance that Scotland would win the match when their captain Gerhard Erasmus was caught by Leask, left-arm spinner Leask, and opener Craig Williams was run out of the leg side by Mark Watt in the 12th & 13th overs.

Smit was calm even after David Wiese, who had 16 victims and eight more to go, fell.

Truth be told, Namibia won the game with Trumpelmann’s opening burst.

The fiery left-arm seamer discovered swing and made good use of it. Calum MacLeod won the match and Richie Berrington, Scotland's stand in captain after Kyle Coetzer was sidelined with a finger injury, took second place.

Leask's hard hitting innings of four fours and two sixes on the leg side saved Scotland from another 60-run defeat against Afghanistan.

He also took 2-12. Scotland might have had enough if they had bowled another 20 runs.

Reaction: "A very proud moment"

Gerhard Erasmus, Namibia captain: "It was emotional going through the group stage. For a while, we put aside those emotions. They put on an impressive performance.

"It's an extremely proud moment, and we'll enjoy it with the small group here and all the Namibians home." It is a proud, small country.

Richie Berrington, Scotland's stand-in captain: "It has been a disappointing morning for us. We were probably 20-30 runs short. After a first-over like this, it's very difficult to come back.

"Credit Namibia. They put us under immense pressure. We didn't recover quickly and we couldn't score the first innings."

Ruben Trumpelmann was the player of the match: "I really enjoyed my time out there. It's amazing under the lights. You can enjoy the World Cup.

"This win means a lot to the team. We're hoping for more. This is huge for us."
