You can't leave Dune without wanting more: Legendary Entertainment, Warner Bros. Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures confirmed that Dune: Part Two would be available in October 2023.
Dune only covered half of Frank Herbert’s sci-fi epic. Denis Villeneuve, the director, chose to split the novel into two films early on. The success of the first film was the only condition for the confirmation of the second film. After premiering in theaters in America and on HBO Max, Dune grossed $40.1 million in its first weekend. It also grossed more than $220 million globally.
Dune lovers everywhere rejoice at the confirmation of Dune: Part Two. Herbert's work was known for being difficult to film. Alejandro Jodorowsky couldn't complete his Dune version, while David Lynch's 1984 film was a commercial and critical disaster. Villeneuve's film is stunning and captivating, and avoids many of the same pitfalls as its predecessor. Villeneuve will have accomplished the impossible: the definitive Dune adaptation. He's halfway there, which is the good news.
What can we expect from Dune Part Two?
There's a lot more bizarreness. Paul Atreides (Timothe Chamet) will continue his quest to become the messianic figure known by the Kwisatz Häderach. The Harkonnens and Fremen will continue their assault against Arrakis' natural resources.
We will also be able to see more characters such as Stilgar (Javier Bardem) and Chani (Zendaya). Although nothing is confirmed, it's possible that we will meet the Emperor and Princess Irulan in Dune: Part Two. My personal hope is that Feyd Raha Harkonnen will make a return, but we'll have to wait until 2023 for confirmation.
Dune is now available in theaters and streaming on HBO Max.
