Matty Cash scored the first goal for Aston Villa during the 3-0 win at home over Everton on September
After being granted Polish citizenship, Matty Cash, Aston Villa's defender could make his international debut next month.
The 24-year-old was raised in Slough, Berkshire. However, his mother is from Poland, and Cash can now represent them.
Cash posted on Instagram, "This is an important and proud moment for me and my families."
"Polish authorities have approved my application for Polish citizenship."
He said, "Now it is time for a new challenge. "I will give everything for this country."
Paulo Sousa, the head coach, said that there was "a lot of enthusiasm" about playing for Poland. He added: "Playing for Poland in Cash’s family is not only a huge responsibility, but it also adds something extra, which is very hard to put into words."
Cash joined Villa Park from Nottingham Forest in September 2020 and signed a five year contract. The deal was worth up to 16m.
He has played in 10 games in all competitions this season for Villa, scoring his first goal in the 3-0 Premier League victory against Everton in September.
Poland is second in the World Cup qualifying group behind England. They face Andorra away at 12 November, before facing Hungary at home on 15 November.
