Moderna announced Monday that a lower dose of the Covid-19 vaccine was safe and generated a strong immune response to a study of children aged 6-11 years.

The vaccine was administered in 50 microgram doses to young adults. This is 1.5 times more than the antibody levels seen in young adults.

According to the company, the shots were generally well tolerated by young children. The most common side effects were fatigue, headache, fever and pain at the injection site. More than 4,700 children were tested for the vaccine.

Moderna stated that it will submit the data to European Medicines Agency, Food and Drug Administration and other regulators "nearly."

Moderna CEO Stephane Bancel stated that they look forward to filing with global regulators and are committed to doing their part to end the COVID-19 epidemic with a vaccine to protect children and adults of all ages.
