Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis stated that he would like to see legislation passed to give $5,000 to police officers who move to Florida.

DeSantis stated that he would like to recruit officers who aren't being treated well over mandates for vaccines in other states during a Fox News interview.

He stated that he would sign a bill during the next legislative session. The bill would provide a $5,000 bonus for law enforcement from outside of the state.

"If you don't feel treated well, you will be treated better here." DeSantis stated that you can fulfill important needs for us and that we will compensate you accordingly.

In August, DeSantis made the first pitch for giving out bonuses to law enforcement recruits.

DeSantis stated in a press release that "as many cities and states choose not to respect, degrade, and defund law enforcement', Florida should continue to value its men and women of law-enforcement today, tomorrow and for future generations."

Bartiromo was told by DeSantis that he was looking for out-of-state officers, "We do have needs in both our police and sheriffs' department."

However, it does not seem that there is a shortage in police officers.

The Orlando Sentinel reported in May that Central Florida's police agencies were at "steady" levels. WJXT reported in May that many counties in North East Florida were not having difficulty recruiting staff or finding people to replace them. Several counties stated that they had difficulty hiring because of their salaries. Many counties have starting salaries below $40,000 per year.

Again, the governor reiterated his opposition against vaccine mandates and President Joe Biden’s push for them.

DeSantis stated that "In addition to taking away people’s personal choices it will wreak havoc on the economy because even though a small portion of these folks lose their jobs or voluntarily walk away, there will be huge disruptions in medical and logistics as well as law enforcement."

He said that Florida would have a special session of the legislature to ensure that no one is "forced to lose their job due these injections."

DeSantis stated earlier this month that he would sue the federal government for violating vaccine mandates.

Biden announced in September that employers who employ more than 100 people would be required to get COVID-19 vaccinations or undergo weekly testing.

DeSantis stated that Biden's mandate was in violation of Florida law.

DeSantis, the Florida Department of Health, and one county were fined $3,570,000 earlier this month for violating the state ban on vaccine passports.
