Frances Haugen, a Facebook whistleblower, stated that she is financially fine for the moment because she invested in crypto. The New York Times reported.

She told The Times that she is fine for the foreseeable future because she bought crypto at the right moment.

Haugen told The Times, "I moved to Puerto Rico because of a continuing health problem." She also said that she was joining her "crypto friends."

She didn't specify which cryptocurrency she purchased.

A Politico report last week claimed that Pierre Omidyar, the billionaire founder and investor of eBay, was funding Haugen. Omidyar is well-known as a critic of Big Tech.

Haugen said that Omidyar helped her with travel expenses and other similar expenses. She is now using her own money.

Omidyar's foundation Luminate donated $150,000 to the organization responsible for Haugen’s legal representation last year.

Her press and government relations in Europe are also provided by the foundation. Bill Burton, Haugen's top representative in US PR, hails from the Center for Humane Technology. Omidyar also funds it.

Insider's Hannah Towey was told by a spokesperson for Luminate that Frances Haugen became public. "Luminate decided to support her efforts to promote a wide public debate about the issues raised by the disclosures."
