Alabama Crimson Tide jump past Oklahoma Sooners to No. 3 in AP Top 25 college football poll

In the fourth quarter, the Crimson Tide took control of the game and won 52-24 vs. Tennessee. (1:47).
Alabama climbed to No. 3 in Sunday's The Associated Press college football poll, just behind No. 2 Cincinnati.

The Bulldogs (63 first-place votes) are a unanimous No. The Bearcats are second, and 1 for the third consecutive week in the latest AP Top 25.

After defeating Tennessee, the Crimson Tide moved up one spot to Oklahoma. The Sooners, now ranked fourth, were defeated in the first quarter against Kansas. However, they scored 35 in the second and pulled away late.

Five ranked teams lost in a week without any games against ranked teams. Two of them were among the top 10. Penn State fell 13 spots to No. 20 after Illinois lost a record nine overtimes. Oklahoma State dropped to No. 8 to No. 15 after Iowa State's loss.

The Crimson Tide has won two games since then and A&M continues to build on that win with two more easy wins. The Aggies are now ranked No. 14.

Combining the two has enabled the Tide's top-five streak of 69 consecutive weeks to be achieved. Clemson's 57-point win was the end of the second-best streak of top-five in poll history.

Georgia's eight-week-old streak of top-five active streaks is second best, with a total of five weeks.

No. 10 Ole Miss is at its highest ranking since 2015, when it was ranked No. 10.

No. 17 Pitt broke into the top 20 for only the second time since the 2010 season, when he was No. 15. They reached No. 8 in the last ranking of the Panthers this far into a season. 8. They finished at No. 15 in 2009.

A few teams from earlier in the season that were in the AP Top 25 are back this week.

No. After dropping out in mid September, 22 Iowa State was able to return. The Cyclones began the season at No. 7 and lost two of their four first games.

No. 25 BYU won Washington State, ending a losing streak of two games. The Cougars are now 4-0 against Pac-12 opponents.

Purdue has been dropped from the rankings after just one week. Since 2005, the Boilermakers (3-3) have not been ranked more than once in any season.

After a close loss against Miami, NC State fell out of the rankings.
