Free League Publishing's new 'Blade Runner' tabletop game will let you hunt down rogue Replicants (exclusive)

The Swedish gaming lab Free League Publishing is an expert in creating award-winning art books and games for iconic science fiction, fantasy and horror properties such as "Alien," and "The Lord of the Rings."

The talented Euro designers are now working on the neo-noir world " Blade Runner" for a roleplaying game for 2022. This transports players into a neon-drenched future, where Replicants face off against Blade Runners for survival.

Alcon Entertainment and Free League Publishing (Symbaroum, Twilight: 2000") have teamed up in honor of the 40th anniversary of Blade Runner. They will be offering fans the chance to explore this iconic sci-fi universe with a core set of tabletop RPGs as well as expansion sets beginning next year.

In the year 2037, gamers will walk the streets of Los Angeles through a futuristic world of contrasts and conflicts. This ambitious project asks difficult existential questions. It explores the power of empathy, fear's poisonous nature, and the burdens that come with being human in such harsh times.

According to the official press release for "Blade Runner: The Roleplaying Game", players will be joining the LAPD's Rep-Detect Unit. There they will face difficult choices as they try to find beauty and humanity while fighting. They will also have to chase fleeting moments love, hope and redemption that are lost in the midst of time like raindrops.

The adventure begins with the Core Rulebook. It is published shortly after the Wallace Corporation unveils the Nexus-9 Replicants. This gives players the option to choose whether they want to be human or artificial. The Year Zero Engine is the foundation of the overarching protocols. It was used in acclaimed games such as "Alien RPG", "Tales From the Loop", and "Forbidden Countries," but it has been further refined and tuned for "Blade Runner".

Space.com's Tomas Hrenstam, co-founder of Free League, says that the 'Blade Runner universe is an iconic piece of science fiction and that a roleplaying game set within it has been a long-held dream of mine." Since the Alcon Entertainment agreement in early 2020, we have been working on this in Free League. It is a fascinating game design process to create a roleplaying game within the Blade Runner universe.

We want to reimagine investigative tabletop roleplaying in Blade Runner RPG. Hrenstam said that the game is both about what it looks like and what it means for characters. We are excited to see how gamers respond to these ideas and concepts.
