Lys Mousset scored also in Sheffield United's win over Stoke 2-1 last weekend
Lys Mousset scored twice within two minutes to secure Sheffield United's sixth consecutive Championship loss.
After a slow opening, the Frenchman broke the deadlock with a right-footed shot past Brad Collins. Then, he doubled his lead by converting Ben Osborn’s low cross.
Jasper Moon scored for the Tykes. They had not won in their 11 previous games. Osborn then added United's third goal.
Barnsley scored Devante Cole's substitute goal in the second half. Aaron Leya Iseka added another goal with eight minutes left. However, they couldn't find an equaliser. Head coach Markus Schopp's position is precarious as his team is at the bottom of the table.
United, however, has climbed four spots to 14th. This is pending the outcome Sunday's game between Fulham Forest and Nottingham Forest.
Both teams made several changes. United won four and Barnsley five. Oli McBurnie started up front for the Blades. He had scored against Barnsley in their 3-2 home win in April 2018. This was the latest meeting between the clubs from south Yorkshire.
In the first 45 minutes, neither side showed any quality. Each team made just one attempt on target and neither goalkeeper was tested.
Markus Schopp inherits a Barnsley team which finished fifth last season, when he arrived in the spring
Robin Olsen made a poor save on Cauley Woodrow's goal shortly after the restart, but Mousset's lightning fast double stunned the home team.
Just after the hour mark, he was replaced by Slavisa Jokanovic who sent in Billy Sharp and David McGoldrick to replace him. They had 194 Championship goals between them.
Sharp was too fast with his first chance, but Osborn found the bottom corner and extended the lead. Barnsley had no choice but to ignore Osborn's warnings.
Cole, whose previous goal for Barnsley was during a 2014 loan period, volleyed home after missing a better chance at 2-0. Leya Iseka scored her first goal in English football with a left footed shot after powering through two defenders.
However, it was not enough for the Tykes. They are just above Wayne Rooney's Derby who had 12 points taken in September to go into administration.
Ben Osborn, Sheffield United's midfielder, spoke to BBC Radio Sheffield:
It was quite a wild game. We knew the first half would be tight. I have seen several of their games this season, and they had very little in the first half.
"We were certain it would open up in half-time, which it did. It was brilliant play by Mouss that got us off the ground and we looked very dangerous for the next 15 minutes.
"We could have scored four to five, but ended up with three. But after that, we struggled to hold the ball and they scored, and we sort of fell apart, to be fair.
"We achieved the three points at the end, but there is still much to be learned."
Markus Schopp, Barnsley's head coach, spoke to BBC Radio Sheffield:
"I saw two teams in the first half. They were both a bit scared and caught up in the recent results.
"In such games it is all about who makes the first error and again it was us.
"At 3-0 we had a great response - but being down against Sheffield United was completely unnecessary.
"We had to deal with a situation before the game, when we had to modify the match plan due to a player not being ready. This is not the first occasion.
