The Houston Astros have been selected by Sportsbooks as the World Series favorite over the Atlanta Braves.

Caesars Sportsbook opened with Astros as -150 favorites to win over Braves. This was after Atlanta beat the Los Angeles Dodgers in Saturday's National League Championship Series. The Astros will now be in the World Series. Since then, the price has dropped to Houston -145 with the Braves listed as +125.

Some sportsbooks are facing significant liability because the Astros are currently in the World Series for only the third time in five years. Jim "Mattress Mack", a Houston furniture store owner, placed $3.35 Million in wagers that the Astros would win the World Series. The odds of winning were around 10-1.

McIngvale frequently uses the betting market as a hedge to promotions at his store. His $2 million bet on the Astros at Caesars Sportsbook at 10-1 would have paid a net $20,000,000 and was one of the highest payouts at any U.S.-based sportsbook.

For much of the season, Atlanta didn't look like a World Series contender. After All-Star Ronald Acuna Jr.'s season-ending ACL tear, the Braves' World Series odds dropped to 40-1 in July.

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the Braves did not reach.500 until August 6, making them the first team in the World Series.
