Letesenbet Gidy, Ethiopia, broke the world record for women's half-marathons by running Valencia in 62 minutes 52 seconds.

The 23-year old beat Ruth Chepngetich's previous record of 13.1 miles by 70 seconds.

Gidey also holds the world record for 10,000m and 5,000m, having won bronze at the Tokyo Olympics this summer.

Gidey said, "I'm so happy that I broke the world record for my first half-marathon."

Yalemzerf Yehualaw, compatriot, was second with a time in 63 minutes 51 seconds.

Yehualaw believed she had broken the women's half-marathon record earlier in the year, but it was not confirmed after 54m of the course was completed.
