Saturday's win over Norwich was the fourth consecutive time that Chelsea has won the Premier League by more than seven goals.
Chris Sutton, a former Chelsea striker, believes the Blues' 7-1 thrashing at Norwich shows why they will win the Premier League. But were they helped by the Canaries, who look set for relegation?
Mason Mount scored a hat trick as Thomas Tuchel's team ran wild at Stamford Bridge. Additional goals from Callum Hudson Odoi, Reece James and Ben Chilwell completed the win.
It was even more impressive considering that it was performed without injured Romelu Lukaku or Timo Werner. Five of the seven goals were scored in the Blues academy.
This means that the London club will end the weekend at the top of the table while Norwich remains at the bottom, without a win this season.
Sutton stated that Chelsea is the best team in Europe and his academy players are thriving.
"Today's performance is excellent, but last month's performances were not there. This is a remarkable mentality. They have a team that is ready to compete at every level."
"Mount one the most outstanding players of the country"
Mason Mount is the 20th player to score a Premier League Hat-Trick for Chelsea. Only Arsenal (21) has more players with hat-tricks.
Mount hadn't scored since Chelsea won the Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid in May. However, his return to goalscoring form was timely after Lukaku & Werner sustained injuries during Chelsea's midweek win over Malmo.
Joe Cole, a former Chelsea midfielder, told BT Sport that Mount is "becoming one of the best players in the country." Some fans don't like him, but I want them to be able to see a touchscreen. He does amazing things. It must be something tribal. I have yet to meet a coach or player who doesn't believe he is exceptional."
Mount was also a provider, setting up James, a fellow academy graduate, to make it 3-0 shortly before the half-time break.
Mount said that it was a special day for him, as well as because of the scoreline.
Blues boss Tuchel stated that Mount's hat trick was a major moment for the 22-year old, but he downplayed his chances of winning the title.
"I felt that he was a little lighter and played with more freedom in the final matches. "This is what we need," Tuchel said.
"There is no manager anywhere in the world that will give you an opinion on the favourites to win the October title race. We know where we are at the moment and what we want to do.
"I don't believe they are playing for the manager."
Teemu Pukki scored two goals in the Premier League this year, which is the only goal Norwich has scored in the competition.
Chelsea's performance was admirable, but they were helped by a Norwich team that has lost seven of nine games this season.
They scored only two goals during that period, making them the third team in Premier League history to score so few goals at this stage.
Chelsea was given far too much ball time by the Canaries, and the Blues took advantage of that. The London club is unlikely to have a more enjoyable afternoon this season.
The best moment of Norwich's day was the sight that manager Daniel Farke stood on the touchline with his arms outstretched in total bemusement at the side's defense after Chilwell's fourth goal for Chelsea.
They have not won the Premier League in 19 of their current games. This is in addition to their 2019-20 top-flight season.
At the end of the campaign, Norwich remained loyal to Farke and were rewarded by the German when they guided them back up at their first attempt. But with an immediate return in the Championship looking possible, is it time to make a change?
Cole stated, "I don't believe the players are playing for their manager." Look at Gibson's mistake - it is an example of a lack professionalism. It needs a new voice in the dressing rooms. The players did not show passion or fight."
Sutton, a former striker for the Canaries, said: "Losing 7-0 puts so many pressure on Norwich. Many people will ask questions about whether the managers are paying attention to the players. Are they the right person to manage them?"
Farke acknowledged the poor performance of his team, but said that it was not the right time to discuss relegation.
It's an unimaginably difficult day. He said that in all areas, we weren't good enough to compete at this level.
"At this level, you have pressure. But I'm just trying to help the team. It was obvious before the game that this would be a difficult task. We will be playing at home to Leeds next week - these are the types of games that we need to win points."
