Chris Gayle, the West Indies' only batter to reach double figures with a weak batting performance, was their second-lowest total against England in T20s.
Although England lost four wickets in their attempt to win and increase their run-rate in Super 12s Group 1, it was still a significant opening win by the top-ranked side of the world and one of the tournament favorites.
Jos Buttler, Opener, finished 24th with an impressive 11.4 overs.
England is bidding to be the first to hold the 50/over and 20/over World Cups. They will face Bangladesh in Abu Dhabi next Wednesday, and Australia in Dubai on Saturday.

England's overwhelming win in numbers
This was the first T20 win for England with more than 10 runs to spare, and it was also the first loss by West Indies with more 10 overs.
West Indies' 55 was their third-lowest total at a T20 World Cup, and their second-lowest score in T20s.
England's victory was fourth in terms of remaining balls at the T20 World Cup.
A dream start for a rampant England
This match was a replay of the 2016 World T20 final. West Indies won it after Carlos Brathwaite scored four consecutive sixes during the final over.
The rematch, despite England's wobble in batting, was not as dramatic but it was still quite remarkable.
The West Indies are expected to be successful in this tournament due to their strong batting lineup. Their batters didn't score runs but walked back to their dressing rooms in a dismal procession.
England was magnificent with the ball and on the field, as Morgan made every move.
After winning the toss, he gave the ball to Moeen, an off-spinner. Moeen was able to dismiss Lendl Simmons & Shimron Hetchmyer in three straight overs.
Mills celebrated his recovery from an injury nightmare to international recall with Gayle's first catch at a World Cup.
Adil Rashid was England's most formidable T20 threat. He was not required until the 11th over. However, when he was brought in, he bowled Andre Russell his first ball. The tail was blown away by the leg-spinner.
West Indies fail fire
Although England was excellent, West Indies' performance as a batsman raised questions about the T20 cricket method.
England bowled 43 dots balls in their first 10 overs. This was their highest total in this period since 2012.
As batters were repeatedly attacked, West Indies seemed to have a block or six approach.
They saved some pride with the ball, Akeal Hosein taking a great diving catch to have Liam Livingstone caught. The semi-finals are still possible with the top two teams from each of the six-team groups.
Two of the lowest T20 World Cup scores have been recorded in the past two days. Sri Lanka beat the Netherlands for 44 on Friday, while Australia and South Africa played out an exciting thriller on Saturday.
Early signs suggest that this might not be a highly-scoring World Cup.
