Mick McCarthy: Manager leaves Cardiff City after eight straight defeats

After Saturday's 2-0 defeat at home by Middlesbrough, Mick McCarthy, Cardiff City manager, has resigned.

Following the defeat at Fulham in midweek and the humiliating 3-0 loss at Swansea City last weekend, the eighth consecutive loss by the Bluebirds was the worst run in club history.

McCarthy leaves the Bluebirds 21st on the table, one point higher than the relegation places.

Since January, the former Republic of Ireland boss, now 62, was in charge.

Terry Connor, McCarthy's assistant, has also left Cardiff City Stadium.

Cardiff stated that Terry Connor and Mick McCarthy, the first-team manager, have resigned by mutual agreement.

"We thank Terry and Mick for their hard work during their time with Bluebirds. We wish them every success in the future."

"Steve Morison, Tom Ramasut and the board of directors will supervise first-team duties during this period. The board of directors then begins the process of appointing permanent replacements."

Irony was evident in the Boro team's final defeat, which was the sixth consecutive at-home loss.

From October 2016 to November 2019, Warnock was the Bluebirds' manager, before McCarthy replaced him with Neil Harris.
