Mason Mount's opening goal was his first Chelsea goal since May's Champions League semi-final second legs win against Real Madrid.
Mason Mount scored a hat trick as Premier League leaders Chelsea defeated bottom club Norwich at Stamford Bridge.
Thomas Tuchel's team was 2-0 ahead within 18 minutes. Mount and Callum Hudson Odoi scored their first goals of this season. Mount then provided the platform to allow Reece James to score a third goal just before half-time.
Ben Chilwell, a fellow defender, scored in the fourth consecutive game to increase Chelsea's lead just after the restart. Mount's late double and Max Aarons' own goal sealed the win.
Canaries defender Ben Gibson was sent to the stands for two yellow cards. This caps a terrible afternoon for the away team, who are still rooted at the bottom of the table without winning this season.
Blues win with ease
After Lukaku, Werner were ruled out due to injuries sustained against Malmo in the midweek, Tuchel played Kai Havertz with Mount and Hudson Odoi each side. Together, they formed a mobile front trio that outmanoeuvred a laboring Norwich defense.
The Canaries' inability to press gave the Blues players too much time on their ball, which they exploited ruthlessly. It is unlikely that the London club will have a more pleasant afternoon this season.
Because Mount was not closed down by Norwich, the England midfielder had the space and time to score the opener after seven minutes. Kovacic and Mount were then able to put Hudson-Odoi (and James) in place to effectively end the game before the break.
As Norwich threatened to get back in the game at half-time, substitute Milot Rashica was saved by Edouard Mendy. However, the match was a procession.
The highlight of their afternoon was the sight that manager Daniel Farke stood on the touchline with his hands outstretched in total bemusement at the Chelsea defense after Chilwell had scored the fourth goal.
Hudson-Odoi's cross was then deflected away from Aarons and crept underneath Krul for an unfortunate own goal. Gibson was then rightly given a second yellow for a clumsy attack on James minutes later.
Krul saved Mount's penalty, but VAR noticed that he was off his line. Mount scored the retaken kick.
Ruben LoftusCheek, a substitute for the Blues, beat the offside trap and tee-up Mount in stoppage time.
Chelsea gave a fitting tribute to Matthew Harding, their former vice-chairman. He died in a helicopter accident as he returned from Bolton in 1996.
It was also a sad day for Norwich, who wore T shirts during warm-up to support Dan Barden, his teammate with testicular carcinoma.
