The United States Grand Prix will be live on 5 Live and BBC Sport.

Second practice at the US Grand Prix saw Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen clashing for the title. Sergio Perez from Red Bull was the winner with the fastest time.

After an incident that saw Hamilton race side-by-side down the pit straight, Verstappen called Hamilton "stupid" on the team radio.

As they turned the corner, Verstappen gave Hamilton a middle finger salute.

Giampiero Lambiase, Verstappen's race engineer, told Verstappen to ignore it.

Hamilton came in third place, with his fastest lap deleted. Verstappen came in eighth.

Hamilton set the fastest time, but it was ruled out because he exceeded the track's limits at the last corner. Perez was 0.01secs slower than Hamilton's time.

Verstappen leads Hamilton by six points with six races left. He didn't set any representative times and ended up in eighth place in a session where he also made cross-talks at Lambiase following a traffic mix-up and then abandoned a second attempt to fly laps.

Hamilton was passing Verstappen going into the last corner. This is what caused the incident between Hamilton and Verstappen.

They raced side-by-side down the pit straight, nearly touching the wheels, and into the first corner before Hamilton took over track position.

Verstappen was slower than Hamilton during the high-fuel simulation runs at the end. Verstappen said that it was not easy because the track is bumpy. We have some work to do overnight but we will get back to it tomorrow.

Perez was fastest by 0.25 secs over McLaren's Lando norris. Hamilton set a legitimate lap of tyres at 0.364 secs slower than their best, and 0.05secs faster than his teammate Valtteri bottas who made a mistake with his fastest lap.

McLaren's Daniel Ricciardo, a McLaren driver, was fifth fastest ahead of Aston Martin Lance Stroll and Ferrari's Charles Leclerc. Verstappen was also fifth.

Bottas is subject to a penalty of five places in the grid for excessive use of engine parts after an engine change.

Sebastian Vettel from Aston Martin and George Russell's Williams have engine penalties. They will start at the back of the grid. Bottas' penalties are larger than Bottas because they have taken more parts.

Bottas as well as Perez had great days. They were both the fastest drivers during the long runs in the second session. This is when drivers simulate the first stint. Bottas was comfortably faster than any other driver.

The number twos may play a crucial role in the remaining races, as their teams compete for the championship.

Fernando Alonso spun his Alpine at Turn 19, and then backed into the barrier. This was late in the session.

He appeared to be able to get away without causing any damage to his car.
