Man Takes Selfie Right as Volcano Explodes Behind Him

"I was afraid. "I never imagined I would meet such a thing."

One Japanese man claims he took the perfect selfie when he saw behind him a volcano erupting.

According to RKK Kumamoto (a Japanese broadcaster), the man hiked close to Mount Nakadake's summit, which is one of five peaks in Mount Aso. Mount Aso is the largest active volcano in Japan and the second largest in the world. He took a selfie as the volcano was erupting, which was unfortunate for the unnamed tourist.

The white smoke became black as I looked through [my camera]. After three seconds, I heard something that I believe was RKK. This comment was translated by Google. I was terrified. It was something I had never imagined.

It was an epic selfie that showed the man, looking somewhat surprised when a huge volcano erupted behind him. After seeing ash and volcanic debris falling from the sky, he ran to safety behind a large boulder. He was able to climb down the mountain without any injuries.

According to Reuters, Mount Aso started erupting around Wednesday morning at 11:40am local. Although the area is well-known for its popularity as a tourist attraction, police claim that no one has been reported missing or dead and that 16 hikers who climbed the mountain on that day have returned to safety.

It is an amazing thing that nobody was hurt, as the videos of the volcano eruption are quite frightening.

The Mount Aso eruption, with its selfies and videos of hellfire and smoke billowing from the volcano, is a humble reminder of how small we are in the grand scheme and how easily nature can destroy us.
