INDIANAPOLIS -- In 2021, injuries aren't stopping for the Colts. Second-year safety Julian Blackmon, who was freed from his second year, suffered a ruptured Achilles in practice Wednesday. The team announced.
This is Blackmon’s second serious injury in less that two years. Blackmon tore his ACL in the Pac-12 championship match at Utah in 2019. Blackmon was selected in the third round in 2020. He quickly recovered and was able to play in 15 games as well as intercept two passes.
Blackmon's season ended with 34 tackles and one forced fumble.
"It's not how we respond that matters!" Blackmon tweeted. Blackmon tweeted: "Let's get the W this week!"
The Colts will add safety to the roster because Khari Willis and George Odum are the only current players at this position.
Blackmon's injury is the latest in a long list of injuries that have plagued the Colts (2-2). Some of the key players that have been or are still out are: Quarterback Carson Wentz and Quenton Nelson, right tackle Braden Smith, cornerback Rodrigo Blankenship and cornerback Xavier Rhodes.
Since the beginning of training camp in July, the Colts (2-4) have placed 19 players on injured reserves. Blackmon is expected to be the 20th.
Sunday night, Indianapolis hosts San Francisco.
