Apple confirmed to The Verge's Dan Seifert, that the SD card slot in the new 14-inch MacBook Pro models supports UHS-II. This allows for read and write speeds up to 312MB/s using a UHS-II-compliant SD Card.
The SD card slot can be used to store additional space. UHS-II compliant SD cards are available in capacities of 64GB, 128GB and 256GB. Professional users such as video editors and photographers will find the SD card slot useful again. They can quickly transfer files to their SD cards without using an adapter.
After being removed in 2016, the SD card slot was one of three ports that were restored to the MacBook Pro models. The other two ports included an HDMI 2.0 port, MagSafe, and a MagSafe. These notebooks have three Thunderbolt4 ports and a 3,5mm headphone jack.
The new MacBook Pro models offer more connectivity than ever. They include Apple's next generation M1 Pro and M1 Max processors, mini-LED displays with ProMotion that refresh at 120Hz, up to 10 hour longer battery life per recharge, full-size physical functions keys in place of a Touch Bar, as well as enhanced connectivity.
The new MacBook Pro models are available for order starting Monday. They will start arriving to customers on Monday and be launched in stores on Tuesday 26 October. The price starts at $1,999 with the 14-inch model, and $2,499 with the 16-inch model.
