Chelsea pair Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner out for 'some matches'

According to Thomas Tuchel, Romelu Lukaku was suffering from "mental fatigue" prior to his injury.

After being injured in the 4-0 Champions League win against Malmo, Romelu Lukaku and Timo werner were both Chelsea strikers.

Lukaku injured his ankle while running in a tackle that resulted in a penalty. Werner also hurt his hamstring during the first half.

Tuchel stated, "It will take some time for them both, and we will need to conduct more examinations to make sure they are precise."

"They will be out to some matches."

Chelsea are playing a straightforward series of games against Southampton, Norwich in the Carabao Cup and Newcastle, Malmo, and Burnley.

After scoring four goals in his four first matches, Lukaku (record signing) has yet to score for Chelsea in seven of his seven games.

"If I had known what would happen, I wouldn't have started the pair," Tuchel said. Tuchel agreed.

"It was essential that Romelu be on the pitch. I talked to him about his mental fatigue, which he had brought with him, and he started strong.

"But he is our number nine and our reference at the front. A goal is the best way to combat mental fatigue.

"He won the penalty by taking the foul, so it could be that it is not 2-0 without him."

Andreas Christensen scored Chelsea's first goal, and Jorginho added two penalties to the score - either side of Kai Havertz's goal.

German Werner, 25, only scored two goals in 10 games this season.

Tuchel stated: "The race has started, the guys starting against Norwich have our trust. We will seek out new solutions.

"We have won games without Werner or Lukaku before, so we don't want to have these problems too often, but it happens during a regular season."
