Convicted child killer charged with first-degree murder after being released from prison

A child murderer convicted of murder was released from prison in 2020 and was charged with the brutal murder of a South Florida woman who was found dead in a canal in South Florida.
Eric Pierson (54), is accused of killing Erika Verdecia (33) who was stabbed four more times with a screwdriver, according to Sunrise police.

Police said that Pierson, who stands 6'8", allegedly confessed to attacking Verdecia who was missing for three weeks.

Pierson was released in September 2020 after serving 27 years of a sentence of 40 years for the 1993 murder Kristina Whitaker.

He was sentenced to 18 years for attempted murder in 1985 after breaking into the home of a woman and slitting their throats. However, authorities declared that he had been released on parole.

Verdecia's mom was informed by her daughter's friends via social media that Verdecia had been seen with Pierson three days before she disappeared.

She said, "I flipped out." "I told police that my daughter had been seen with a murderer. They began to search for her. It was too late.

Pierson was interrogated by police. His girlfriend stated that Pierson would look at the canal behind Pierson's home, where Verdecia's body was, and then say, "Damn, that b **** stinks." According to authorities, if they don’t find a body they don’t have a case."
