Brian Laundrie's parents had 'advised' law enforcement to look in the location where apparent human remains were found, their lawyer says

Police are looking for Brian Laundrie in the Carlton Reserve. North Port Police Department
Steven Bertolino, a Steven Bertolino family attorney, stated that his parents suggested to the FBI where to look.

According to the FBI, these apparent human remains were discovered in the Carlton reserve.

Authorities also discovered some of his belongings but are still analysing the remains.

Steven Bertolino, Steven Laundrie's lawyer, said that Brian Laundrie’s parents "advised” law enforcement to investigate the location where apparent human remains were discovered on Wednesday.

Bertolino stated that Roberta and Chris Laundrie visited the reserve earlier today. They discovered human remains and some Brian's possessions in an area they initially suggested to law enforcement that Brian might be. "Chris, Roberta will wait until the forensic identification is made of the human remains before they make any further comments."

The FBI confirmed earlier in the day that apparent human remains had been found in the Carlton Reserve in Florida. This is where Laundrie was reported missing in mid September. His parents were said to have been the head of the reserve.

Insider was told by Bertolino that Chris Laundrie found a "dry bag" containing Brian's items in the woods along the trail. A law enforcement officer also found a backpack near the trail's remains.

Bertolino told CNN's Chris Cuomo later that there is a strong possibility that the remains are Brian's, but that they will wait for forensic results before we can confirm that. Authorities have yet to confirm if the remains belonged to Laundrie.

Michael McPherson of the FBI's Tampa Division, stated that the remains were found in an area previously under water in the Florida reserve.

McPherson stated that investigators had found "what appears to be human remains" along with personal items such as a backpack or notebook belonging to Brian Laundrie earlier today at a press conference.

His parents initially reported Laundrie missing on September 17. They claimed that he had left the house to go on a hike on September 14th and never returned. Later, his parents changed their story and stated that Brian last saw them on September 13.

Law enforcement has been on the lookout for the man responsible for Gabby Petito’s death since then.
