Jorginho was the first player to score penalties in a Champions League match against multiple keepers since 1999. Malmo changed goalkeepers at halftime.
Chelsea's Champions League campaign was re-launched by beating Malmo at Stamford Bridge. However, it was a costly victory as strike duo Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner were both injured.
Although the holders lost their previous game against Juventus in Turin, it was not a mistake as the Swedes were totally outclassed.
Andreas Christensen scored Chelsea's first goal in 137 matches with Thiago Silva's pass. Jorginho then doubled Chelsea's lead from the spot, after Lukaku was fouled on the spot by Lasse Nielsen. The forward was left limping with what appeared to be an ankle injury.
Werner was suffering from hamstring problems before half-time. Chelsea progressed well as Callum Hudson-Odoi replaced him and Kai Havertz was appointed to replace him. This allowed them to finish their third match just after the break.
Malmo were outpowered, and Jorginho scored again from the spot after 57 minutes. This was following Eric Larsson's foul against Antonio Rudiger. IsmaelDiawara, the replacement goalkeeper, had no more success than Johan Dahlin in the first half.
Chelsea's luxurious cruise
Chelsea had the most pleasant of nights as they moved past the pain of losing to Juventus in emphatic fashion.
Chelsea is still three points behind the Italians in Group H. However, they have to visit Stamford Bridge.
The Blues performed in a different league to their Swedish counterparts and settled the matter in the 48th minute when Havertz scored a third goal.
Thomas Tuchel, the manager of Chelsea, will be extremely satisfied with how Chelsea dealt with this simple task against Malmo.
With their excellent passing and fluid movement of the ball, they remained in control all through.
However, Werner and Lukaku were both injured, so the win was not as significant.
Nielsen brought Lukaku down for Jorginho’s first penalty. He appeared to have placed the entire weight of Malmo's player on his ankle.
He was unable to continue with his club record signing and, even though he tried to walk to the halfway line to carry on, it became clear that he was struggling.
Werner strained his hamstrings and raced into the area. He was then taken off again.
Next game for Chelsea is against the Premier League's lowest club Norwich City at Stamford Bridge, on Saturday. Tuchel confirmed that Lukaku will be there and Werner would be out for "some games".
Now, he must hope that this remarkable victory doesn't come at too high a price to his side.
