Rep. Jim Jordan claims he doesn’t know how many times Trump spoke to him on January 6.
"I don't remember the exact number of times. He said that it wasn't about him.
Jordan could be a material witness to the House select committee's January 6 investigation.
Rep. Jim Jordan said Wednesday that he does not know how many conversations he had on January 6th with former President Donald Trump.
"Of course, I spoke to the president. That day, I spoke to him. That's all I know. I can't remember how many times. It's not about you," the Ohio Republican stated during a House panel hearing regarding a resolution to charge Trump's former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon with criminal contempt for refusing to comply with a congressional subpoena. To advance the resolution, the committee voted 9-4 in favor of it.
Responding to questions from Democratic Rep. Jim McGovern about Jordan's statements, he said that he only spoke to Trump after the attack. This refuted a Politico report that claimed he had spoken with Trump during the siege.
Jordan had previously disclosed that he spoke to Trump at least once in January, but refused to give any details. Fox News reported in July that Jordan said: "I never discuss what we talk about."
The House select committee is investigating what happened on that day and has revealed Trump's January 6 interactions. So far, the committee has issued subpoenas to a few Trump officials, including Bannon who has refused.
In July, GOP Rep. Liz Cheney from Wyoming suggested that Jordan could be a material witness in the ongoing investigation.
Cheney is a vocal Trump critic and one of two Republicans on this committee who has also spoken out against the former president as well as the January 6 attack.
Many Republicans, including Jordan have mocked the January 6 investigation. Some downplayed the day's violence.
