Vikings were the first Europeans who reached the Americas before Christopher Columbus. Now we know the exact year they arrived. The year AD 1021 saw the Norse people chopping down trees on Newfoundland. They must have also crossed the Atlantic Ocean.

According to Michael Dee, University of Groningen in The Netherlands, "Human beings crossed the Atlantic for the first time in history exactly a millennium back."
