COLUMBIA (S.C.) -- South Carolina's starting quarterback Luke Doty will need surgery for an injured foot and will be out of action for the remainder of the season. Coach Shane Beamer announced Tuesday.
Doty would undergo the operation in the latter part of this week, and would not be back until spring practice.
Beamer stated that former assistant coach Zeb Noland, who was a graduate assistant, would be starting for South Carolina (4-3 SEC). 17 Texas A&M (5-2; 2-2) Saturday night
Doty was injured in August when someone stepped on Doty's foot during practice.
Noland was injured and the sophomore came in to replace him. The sophomore came in for Noland, who was injured. He then began the four remaining games. South Carolina trailing by 20-14, Noland substituted Doty for the final drive. He led a 75-yard touchdown drive that resulted in the Gamecocks' 21-20 win Saturday night.
Beamer stated that Doty was happy to be there for practice Sunday and take part in offensive meetings Tuesday.
"Don't believe it's going to have any long-term effects on him." Beamer stated.
Doty completed 86 out of 143 passes for 975 yard with five touchdowns, and three interceptions.
