T20 World Cup: England captain Eoin Morgan would consider dropping himself

Last update on. From the section Cricket
Morgan has scored 2,360 runs with an average of 28.78 runs and a strike rate of 138.25 in the 107 Twenty20s for England

Eoin Morgan, England captain, said he would drop himself at the T20 World Cup in case of poor performance with the bat.

In seven Twenty20 innings, England's left-hander scored just 82 runs with an average of 11.71 runs.

Morgan managed 133 points at 11.08 per game in the Indian Premier League (IPL), though he was the leader of Kolkata Knight Riders to last weeks's final.

He said, "I will not stand in my way of the team winning World Cup."

"I have been short on runs, but my captaincy is pretty good."

Morgan answered the question "That's always an option."

Morgan was resting as Jos Buttler led England's seven-wicket loss to India in Dubai on Monday.

England will face New Zealand on Thursday in their final warm up game in Dubai, before facing West Indies on Saturday in their first group game in Dubai.

Morgan was able to make two ducks, and reached double figures just once in his nine IPL innings. However, he stated that he would "continue taking risks" in England's middle order.

He said, "I wouldn’t be standing here without having come out of every bad run in form that I’ve ever had."

"The nature and location of T20 cricket means that I have to always take high-risk decisions." That's something I have come to terms with."

Morgan, who led England to a T20 World Cup final in 2016, and won the 50-over World Cup 2019 in 2019, doesn't think that his form will affect his captaincy.

He said, "I have always been able to separate them and treat them both as different challenges."

"I'm not a bowler, but I love the captain's role.

When it comes to influencing the game, you get two bites of the cherry."

England will kneel against West Indies

Morgan stated that England's players will join West Indies by taking a knee in support of Black Lives Matter.

Both sides sat down and many West Indies players raised their right hand, which was covered with a black glove, before the three Tests in England in 2020.

Michael Holding, West Indies legend, criticised them for not continuing the gesture beyond that series.

England players wore Tshirts with anti-discrimination messages in a "momentof unity" before their home matches this summer.

Morgan stated that Morgan was unsure if there is a chance for a moment of unity before further games at the World Cup.

Before Tuesday's T20 World Cup match, players from Papua New Guinea and Scotland knelt.
