New FCC rules could force wireless carriers to block spam texts

The Federal Communications Commission, acting chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel is looking to establish new rules for spam text messages. The policy, which is similar to a recent proposal from the agency to create new rules targeting spam text messages, would force wireless carriers and telephone companies into blocking the spam before it reaches your phone.
Rosenworcel stated that scammers are trying to exploit our trust in text messages by sending fake robotexts. These bots try to trick consumers into sharing sensitive information or clicking on malicious links. We need to take action to stop this new wave of fraud, and to identify ways mobile carriers can block automated messages that could cause harm.
