Luis Suarez will face his former club Tuesday, when Atletico Madrid hosts Liverpool in the Champions League.
Suarez is the Reds fifth-highest scoring forward in the Premier League era, scoring 69 goals in 110 matches. He then went on to win trophies at Barcelona as well as Atletico.
However, where would you place him among the greatest Liverpool players of all time?
Below, you can read about the top 10 forwards who have scored goals in the league (excluding Steven Gerrard), and then rank them.
Robbie Fowler (1993-2001, 2006-07)
Robbie Fowler scored twice for Liverpool against Aston Villa during the 1996 FA Cup semi-final
PL goals: 128 PL games: 266 PL assists: 30 Mins per PL goal: 158
Robbie Fowler is the Liverpool player who has scored more Premier League goals that Gerrard.
He is nicknamed "God" by Liverpool fans. He is also the Reds' sixth highest scorer in all competitions.
If not for his 22-year-old injury, he would have probably scored more goals. He had scored 83 of his 128 league goals for Reds before that.
Michael Owen (1996-2004)
This day in 2001: Owen scores two late goals to help Liverpool win the FA Cup
PL goals: 118 PL games: 216 PL assists: 30 Mins per PL goal: 143
Fowler was not the only one who would have scored more, but for injury. Owen is the only Liverpool player who won the Ballon d'Or – back in 2001 - when he won five trophies (including two minor ones) for the club.
Fast and lethal finisher, Owen scored more Premier League goals than Fowler and Gerrard - even though Owen left Liverpool for Real Madrid at 24 to join the Real Madrid team.
By joining Manchester United in later stages of his career, he slightly damaged his Liverpool reputation.
Mohamed Salah (2017-)
PL goals: 102 PL games: 153 PL assists: 37 Mins per PL goal: 126
The most significant moment in Premier League history was Mohamed Salah's 2017-18 arrival from Roma.
He joined a team that had not won a trophy for five seasons, and was just qualifying for the Champions League.
He has been with the Reds for four seasons, winning the Champions League, losing the final game, winning the Premier League title, and earning two Golden Boots. This is a great accomplishment for someone who doesn't even consider himself a striker.
Sadio Mane (2016-)
PL goals: 79 PL games: 170 PL assists: 27 Mins per PL goal: 175
Mane joined Liverpool in the season prior to Salah. He has had a similar success story, sharing the Golden Boot with Salah as well as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in 2018-19.
Salah is two months older than Salah and he has a lower goal, assist, and scoring rate than his team-mate.
Luis Suarez (2011-14)
PL goals: 69 PL games: 110 PL assists: 23 Mins per PL goal: 139
Uruguay striker Suarez was a big hit in three and half seasons with Liverpool. He won the Golden Boot with 31 goals during 2013-14, which was the season that almost won the league.
He won the 2012 League Cup, his only trophy in England.
He continued to enjoy greater success in Spain, winning La Liga in five years, a Champions League and is Barcelona's third highest scorer (198 goals).
Roberto Firmino (2015-)
PL goals: 70 PL games: 217 PL assists: 43 Mins per PL goal: 236
Firmino, who is currently Liverpool's iconic front three with Salah & Mane, is the centre-forward for the team. However, he only scores a goal about once every two and a quarter games.
However, he does have more assists that anyone else on the list.
Fernando Torres (2007-2011)
PL goals: 65 PL games: 102 PL assists: 12 Mins per PL goal: 121
Torres had the highest minutes-per-goal ratio of any Liverpool forward, and also played the fewest games.
Torres, like Suarez played three and a quarter seasons for Liverpool, but only managed more than 24 league matches once. He then went on to collect his trophy collection elsewhere.
After his move to Stamford Bridge for 50 million, Torres played more games for Chelsea than Liverpool, scoring fewer goals but winning the Champions League, Europa League, and FA Cup.
Dirk Kuyt (2006-2012)
Archive: Man Utd knocked out of FA Cup by late Kuyt strike
PL goals: 51 PL games: 208 PL assists: 27 Mins per PL goal: 309
Kuyt, a Dutchman, was well-known for his hard work but was not a prolific Liverpool frontman. Kuyt played in more than 30 Premier League matches during each season at Anfield, but never scored more that 13.
He was able to win a League Cup in his last season, which was his only trophy in England.
Daniel Sturridge (2013-2019)
PL goals: 50 PL games: 116 PL assists: 15 Mins per PL goal: 136
England striker Sturridge scored 50 Premier League goals, but only 62% of those were in his first 23% time at the club.
In his first season and half, he scored 31 Premier League goals. He finished second to Suarez during the Golden Boot race 2013-14. They were a formidable combination, and the club was on the verge of winning the title.
After that, he was plagued by injuries and never reached double figures in any league for Reds, West Brom or Trabzonspor.
Ian Rush (1992-1996, Premier League era)
PL goals: 45 PL games: 130 PL assists: 9 Mins per PL goal: 235 League goals: 229 League games: 469 Mins per lg goal: 175
Ian Rush is Liverpool’s top goal scorer full stop. He has 346 goals in total and 229 in league play.
He was only 30 when the Premier League was created in 1992, so his goals were a bit older. However, having played for Liverpool for 15 years over two spells, his minutes-per-league-goal stat still ranks below most of the other players on this list.
Before he left for Leeds, he still managed to score 45 Premier League goals over four seasons.
