Cam Newton, a free-agent quarterback, stated in a Sunday video that he had been vaccinated against COVID-19. He wants to continue playing football.

The New England Patriots released Newton, 32, shortly before the start of the season. Newton had missed three practices due to what the Patriots called a COVID-19 protocol misunderstanding, although coach Bill Belichick stated that Newton's vaccine status did not factor into the decision to release him.

Newton stated in Sunday's video that "Hell yeah, I still want to play soccer." "I still feel the urge to perform and do something I have done since I was seven years old."

He stated that he had been receiving offers from several teams and that the situation was "absolutely right."

Newton stated that he initially was reluctant to be vaccinated due to the "side effects". Newton said that he believes the vaccination is a personal decision.
