Betty Lynn, Thelma Lou From ‘The Andy Griffith Show’ Dies At 95

Betty Lynn, an actress, was known for her role in Thelma Lou's (Don Knotts), love interest on CBS's sitcom The Andy Griffith Show. She died Sunday. She was 95.

Andy Griffith Museum in Mount Airy North Carolina announced the news via a Facebook post.

The post read, "It is with an extremly heavy heart that we announce Betty Lynn's passing." Thank you for all your support, prayers and cards. All of us will miss Betty. Betty, we love you.

Betty Lynn was born Elizabeth Ann Theresa Lynn in Kansas City, Missouri on August 29, 1926. She had 12 roles in films before she joined The Andy Griffith Show. Apartment for Peggy and Sitting Pretty were among the featured roles. Mother Is a Freshman was in 1949. Meet Me In Las Vegas 1956. Louisiana Hussy and Hangman were also included.

Lynn was also starring in guest roles on television series, including the anthology series Chevron Theatre or The Revlon Mirror Theater. She began her recurring role in 1953 on the ABC sitcom, Wheres Raymond? starring Ray Bolger. The George Burns and Gracie Allen Shows, Cavalcade of Americas, Matinee Theatres, Oh!, and The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show were other guest appearances. Susanna, Wagon train, Sugarfoot and Mike Hammer were some of the other guest appearances on television.

Lynn was a guest on the TV movie Return To Mayberry in 1986. She also reunited Andy Griffith for five episodes at NBC's Matlock legal drama. In 1990, her final guest role was on the police drama Shades of LA.

In a Facebook post, the Andy Griffith Museum stated that Lynn would have a private funeral in Culver city, California. A memorial for the star will be announced at a later date.
