China GDP disappoints, third-quarter growth slows to 4.9%

BEIJING China's Third Quarter GDP grew by 4.9%, despite lower industrial activity than expected.

Monday's National Bureau of Statistics report showed that the gross domestic product increased 4.9% in third quarter compared to a year ago. Analysts polled by Reuters said that this was below the 5.2% growth expected.

The industrial production increased by 3.1% in September, which was below the 4.5% forecast by Reuters.

Retail sales rose 4.4% in September compared to a year ago, exceeding all expectations. According to Reuters, 3.3% growth was expected.
